Triennale Milano returned to organize an International Exhibition after more than twenty years. XX1T – 21st Century. Design After Design explores the role of design in the new millennium, in a context where design moves beyond the sole domain of product design to become a tool for interpreting contemporary technological, social and cultural transformations.
We designed the visual identity of the XXI Triennale starting from a simple idea: the first Triennale (1T) after the twentieth century (XX). From this intuition comes the logo XX1T, a typographic synthesis that combines Roman numerals and Arabic numbers to express the passage from one era to another.
The mark becomes the foundation of an essential visual system capable of extending across all layers of the exhibition: from institutional communication to signage and the graphic design of the exhibitions spread across the city. We developed the entire graphic framework of the event, designing orientation systems, informational elements and the identity of the exhibition spaces.
The project also extends to the editorial dimension with a 7 cm mini catalogue, conceived as a pocket-sized object capable of condensing the experience of the exhibition.
In parallel, we collaborated with the Dutch studio KesselsKramer on the communication campaign, developing an enigmatic yellow object placed in different urban contexts — a visual device that playfully evokes the relationship between humans and design.
