The Kuwait Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015, designed by Studio Italo Rota, was conceived as an immersive experience focused on the natural elements that define the country’s identity: desert, sun and water. The architecture recalls the profile of traditional dhow sails, translating into form the dialogue between cultural heritage and technological innovation.
The exhibition path alternates analog and multimedia interactive stations, narrating natural resources and sustainable processes such as desalination and water reuse — technologies through which Kuwait shapes its contemporary society while addressing global environmental challenges.
We developed the graphic installation of the pavilion, designing large-scale wall illustrations, signage and ceiling graphics inspired by traditional Kuwaiti carpet embroidery techniques. The visual language integrates cultural references into a contemporary system, guiding visitors throughout the experience.
We also designed the space dedicated to children, where the mascot “Kiwo” led young visitors through an accessible and engaging interpretation of the pavilion. The experience concluded in a traditional suq, where spices, objects and atmospheres conveyed a tangible sense of Kuwaiti hospitality.
